Second Impressions is a nonprofit started and run by Benedicte Gyllensten. It is centered around photography workshops for refugees and the creation of a social and creative network of people with different backgrounds and similar interests. It is mainly funded by grants and donations in addition to a small income from sales of photos and photo products. The organization will work in Oslo, Norway and a long-term goal is to create a model that can be replicated around the world.
Mission
Second Impressions provides photography workshops and mentorships to adult refugees who have recently arrived in Norway or struggle to become a part of Norwegian Society. The program gives them a social network and an opportunity to tell their story through photography and share it with the world, with the intention of educating people about the many different reasons why people come to Norway as refugees.
Vision
Second Impressions wants to see a world where everyone is seen and heard without being judged on first impressions and preconceptions. Every person has a story, and by sharing these we can learn to see each other as individuals with varied backgrounds and a common wish to live peaceful and fulfilled lives.
